Antonym/restiveness

RESTIVENESS:
A. contentment
B. heartiness
C. smugness
D. bashfulness
E. urbanity

(Choose a lettered word that is most nearly opposite in meaning to the word in the capital letters.)

The answer is A. I got very confused. “Restive” doesn’t imply anything about that it is discontentment that causes the uneasy impatience and resisting control.

But it doesn't suggest "discontentment", Pieanne. Emotion: embarrassed

I do agree. But "contentment" also implies "happiness" hence "quietness", not wanting to do anything to get more than what we've already got. For ex., "smugness" only implies part of it.

I rather see it as "movement" as opposed to "absence of movement".

I still don't think they are opposite to each other fairly well.

If you go at it the other way round, only "contentment" fits the bill...

BTW, they say "the most nearly opposite"... Emotion: smile
