Antonym for 'hot' according to the context

Hi teachers,
Could 'hot' be a good antonym for 'cold' in the following sentence? Is there a better one?
It doesn't sound good to me according to the context. Is there a better one?
The man was cold and very tired.

Thanks in advance

We have no context, really. Does the sentence speak of low temperatures so the man is freezing? If that is the case, then 'hot' is an apt antonym.

Hi Mister Micawber,
Thank you for your reply.
This is the context:
The man was cold now, and very, very tired. ‘I need sleep,’ he thought. ‘Where can I hide?’ he looked up at the trees.
‘Up there,’ he thought. ‘The dogs can’t follow me up a tree.’

Does the sentence speak of low temperatures so the man is freezing? Yes, it does.

Yes, just as Mister Micawber used it, 'apt' does mean 'appropriate' or 'suitable' or you might say 'fitting'. Emotion: smile
