Antonia> Despite his better judgement

Hello!

I have a lot of questions for you my dear friends. Don't hold it against me, please.

1.What does it mean in the context:

Despite his better judgement, he asked her: What's wrong with you?

2. Another question: What does it mean stiff drink? Is it a thick drink or strong drink, or sth else?

3. The thrid question is: What does it mean She licked the pudding off the top? She licked it (whitout using the spoon) from above?

4. Attack dogs? Are these trained dogs that serve as a protection, guard dogs or?

5. To lever somebody with nasty look? Does it mean to look at sb judgingly?

6. Lapping sound refers to dogs in my context: lapping and licking sound. Since I have to translate it I have to make a distinction between licking and lapping. Is lapping also the sound that dogs make when they shake themselves, the sound of their ears while doing so. Those of you who have dogs will know what I am talking about. Or?

7. She stood firm. Can it mean she was determined and wouldn't give in?

I'd appreciate your help.

How does counter fit into the context?

It was just a wild guess of mine, since she had already wrecked the pudding by scooting onto the counter... But It should be "off the top" of something? Or she simply eats/licks the pudding wi

Hi Pieanne,

You are not a native speaker, yet your english is very good. Do you have any suggestions for me? What should I do to improve mine? Do you speak any other languages besides French and English. If so, how did you learn all these languages at the same time. I took some french courses during my University years, I was beyond the intermediate level, but now I forgot most of it. Rec
