4) The English expression is to tread on someone's toes. Meaning as described by others. To offend someone by taking on something they believe they should have responsibility for or by interfering.
5) I think US English may use cans for toilets sometimes but it doesn't sound quite right in this context. Maybe short for trashcans (rubbish)?
