Anti-right credentials

while a hardcore communist is a red, a left liberal socialist is often derogatively described as a 'pinko', an epithet that endorshes the subject's anti-right credentials and as such is seen as a truly left handed compliment.

wht is the meaning of anti-right credentials here.

Actually, I don't quite understand the sentence. But I think "anti-right credentials" is referring to the left member. In politics, left wing refers to groups of people who advocate liberal, often radical, methods to change established order, whereas the right are fundamentalists or those who advocate more conservative methods.

  • Communists are described as "red", but socialist, as they aren't "fully communists", are described as "pinko", as if to describe the left is a sort of watered-down communist.
  • So I think "anti-right credentials" is used to mean "pinko" is an accurate description/qualification of those who are the opposite of a right (aka anti right).
