An/the with 'exact'

Hi there,

I would like to check this. A company writes regarding a shipment:

"We cannot provide the exact delivery date."

or

"We cannot provide an exact delivery date."

With my logic, there's only one delivery date when the item can be delivered. But I often see "an exact delivery date". Are both correct / can I use both? What is the reasoning behind this curious usage?

Thank you so much.
