Answering invitation to a conference

Dear all,

my supervisor has been invited to a conference but he won't be able to attend it unfortunately. He asked me to thank the organisation that is setting up the event and to wish them all the best. Here below is a draft of the letter I wrote. Any comments are welcome... Thanks a lot for your help!

Dear President,

I am writing to thank you for your fax, which was received on 10 October 2006.

First of all, I would like to apologize for getting back so late to you.

It would have been a real honour and pleasure to attend the [event] and the celebration activities dedicated to 100th anniversary of [their movement], unfortunately, I regret to inform you that my schedule for November prevents me from joining you on this latter event. As you may have heard, the President of our organisation resigned recently. Due to these unexpected circumstances, additional duties which have to be dealt with this month at [national] level have therefore been assigned to my position temporarily.

However, I would like to express the full support of [our organisation] for your ongoing reforms and your struggle for social justice. With this regard, I asked to our European Department to pay attention to any opportunities that may lead to some collaboration between our organisations in a near future.

Wishing you again all the best for these celebrations.

Yours sincerely,
