I have gone through a dictionary and it says that in front of is not the same(meaning wise) as apposite.

Is that correct?

I have gone through a dictionary and it says that in front of is not the same(meaning wise) as opposite.

That's true when you look at the dictionary. 'Opposite' refers to 'a position on the other side of something (eg) the road'. 'In front of' does not specifically refer to 'on the other side of something'. If I build my house 2 centimetres oiutside the front door of the post office, my house is 'in front of the post office'.

In addition, 'opposite' does not refer specifically to the front of something. eg If my front door faces the back of the post office, my house is still opposite the post office.

However, as I said, in everyday English, if someone tells me that they live opposite the post office or in front of the post office, it usually means the same thing.

Here are a few other ways to say this.

My house faces the front of the post office.

My front door faces the front door of the post office.

My front door is opposite the front door of the post office.

I live across the road from the front door of the post office.
