Another set of mixed questions

1. How do you know when to use the article "the" and when not to use it?

Christian is (the???) one that maintains ...

2. According to some grammar books, as far as I can recall, the word "who" is used when the noun it follows refers to a person or persons but I think for some cases both "who" and "that" would be fine.

He is the kind of person (who or that) is pure.

3. What is the difference?

She should done (it) better.

She should have done (it) better.

4. What is the difference?

1. In this construction, you must use "the." But you could simplify your sentence to begin "Christian maintains..." (By this, I am assuming Christian is one person and you are not referring to all people of the Christian faith.) If you did want to use "the one" then I would make that into who.
