Another is/are Question

I have been searching for an answer to this for some time and am unable to find answer. Consider the following two sentances,

1) Each of the so many objects is painted.
2) Each of the so many objects are painted.

I can see that option 1 could be correct because you are considering each of the objects as a singular. However the noun used is itself a plural so should the verb not be too?

Which is correct and why?

Top answer

leokent 1) Each of the so many objects is painted. 2) Each of the so many objects are painted. " (remove 'so') 'Each' should followed by a singular verb (in this case 'is').

  • leokent 1) Each of the so many objects is painted.
