Another for other correct?

Hi. Could we replace the word "other" to "another" here in this phrase to mean the same, like "having a pen or other writing instrument"? For the phrase "having a pen or other writing instrument," I believe we can replace the word "other" with the word "another" without changing the meaning. Thank you in advance for your help.

by reason of apostasy or other (another?) great sin
