Another Comma question

Her surprise touched me deeply, as she shared...

or

Her surprise touched me deeply as she shared... (without the comma)

Are both okay? I left my sentence without the comma but a friend placed the comma in there. Thanks for the help.

I think the comma is acceptable, but without it, the sentiment seems much more accurate to me.
