Another and Others

I encountered "others doing something to others" meaning apparently "another person doing something to another person" because they are "others" as far as you are concerned. I can't get my head around that. Another (someone other than yourself) greeting another is clear to me. "Others greeting others" meaning another person greeting another person (because they are others from your viewpoint) is hard for me to grasp. "Others doing something" is also clear to me, but when you add "to others", I can only think of two or more people doing something to two or more people. Is there some point of style I am not grasping?

The four phrases you gave: "others doing something to others", "another greeting another", "others greeting others", and "others doing something" are seemingly grammatical and reasonable, but they are not used in English. So it's no wonder you're having trouble grasping them.

The picture I get is of some people (not including you) doing something to some other people (not including you). Examples might be white nationalists hating anyone who is not white, Catholic priests preaching to their congregations, or door-to-door salesmen knocking on all the doors in a given neighborhood.
