Another and other

Hello great people!

Would you like to help me with this question:

Just (1) ____ any child, my students are good at one thing and poor at (2) _______. If you ask
  1. A. do B. as C. like D. for
  2. A. other B. others C. the others D. another
I opt “1c, 2.d” because we say “Like any child” not “as any child” and “one thing” versus “another”. Could anyone help me identify the usage of “other” and “another”. To tell the truth, I have read a lot of explanations about using “another”, “other” and “others” but I still have a feeling that it’s a hard nut.

Thank you for reading my note. Have a nice day!
