announce an impending/imminent/upcoming death

Throughout Englans, when birds cry out loudly, it is said that the ghosts of babies make them do so. A stray dog is believed to announce an impending death. Thus, animals play a role in local ghost stories, too.

Hi,
Is it correct to interpret "announce an impending death" in the above as "predict/herald an imminent/upcoming death?" Thanks.
