Animal as a verb

Hi, what does animal means as a verb ? here is a sentence with this word :

"During their time talk about birds and together, his father would animals or tell
stories and legends common to North Carolina"

I can't make sense of it. Thanks in advance.

It's from the book. I think that it can be something kind of "animal talking". For instance:

" I animaled him a little" - because he is a biologist.

but, It's just my suppositions

The only word I can think it being is 'animated' but I cannot be certain. However animal cannot be a verb and "I animaled him a little" doesn't make any sense I'm afraid.

It must surely be a typo. Individual animal names are used as verb though - crowing (boasting), squirreling (hoarding), beavering (busying) etc.
