I wonder if there is any difference in the meaning between "1" and "2".

1. I'm 65 and my mother still brushes my hair out of my eyes.

2. I'm 65 but my mother still brushes my hair out of my eyes.

In my opinion, the second one asks us to assume that the mother should not do this. ") The first one makes no such assumption, or judgement as to its appropriateness. The person may very well enjoy having the mother do this.

(It would work better with a comma after "65.")

The first one makes no such assumption, or judgement as to its appropriateness.
The person may very well enjoy having the mother do this.
