Hi

Please tell me what is the difference in the meaning.

She spoke eloquently and/while her sister spoke nervously.

Both sentences basically say the same thing but the one with "while" adds some additional emphasis on how the sisters differed in their speech. (otherwise there's no difference in meaning between the two sentences) "while/whereas" is used to introduce contrast.

"while/whereas" is used to introduce contrast.

Ivanhr is correct, "while" is used to show direct contrast. Using "and" does not put any emphasis on the contrast.
