Hello, would you please tell me if "and that" can be used as "and" ? is there some difference?

For example:

  • It turns out, however, that data gathered via market research and that gathered via qualitative user research complement each other quite well.
And by the way, is it correct to say "is there some difference", instead of using "are + differences"?
