And in a colon list

I would like to know if it is necessary to use 'and' in a colon list. I am asking this because my lists have not only one-word members but also more-than-one-word members. Some of my lists have only phrases as members so I am not using 'and' in the end in these cases. I do not even want to write 'etc.' (or its substitutes in the end).

Is this list below is it necessary to put 'and' before 'oranges'

The basket had a variety of fruits: mangoes, guavas, grapes, oranges.

If those four are the only fruits in the basket, it's "The basket held a variety of fruits—mangoes, guavas, grapes and oranges."

If there were other fruits in the basket besides those four, it's "The basket held a variety of fruits including mangoes, guavas, grapes and oranges."
