...and if you would / did

Hi

If I did A, would you do B? And if you [would do / did] B, how long would it take?

I presume it's "did"? Or maybe even "did do"?

Your will be appreciated!

MustAsk If I did A, would you do B? And if you [would do / did] B, how long would it take? "would do" isn't the best choice.

  • "did" or "did do" are both good.
  • I'd probably say "did do".

"would do" isn't the best choice.

"did" or "did do" are both good. I'd probably say "did do".

Yes, with no 'do' after it, though you could say "And if you did do it".

Cross-posted with CJ, with whom I don't agree on this occasion.

ps. I was wrong. See the next two posts.

In effect "to do B" is "to do it", isn't it?

Would you walk on fire? And if you did walk on fire, how do you think it would feel?

where 'do B' = 'walk on fire'

I take your post to say we must replace the second 'walk on fire' with 'it'.

Sorry, my mistake. I didn't notice the 'B' in the original.
