"and" as "but"?

Can I replace "but" with "and"?

I waited until three, but no one came.
= I waited until three, and no one came.
= I waited until three and no one came. (Should there be a comma?)

I am asking that because it seems to make sense to me, and I think that I've seen such kind of usage somewhere before.

Thank you.
