Hello,

I think it is a simple sentence.

The confusion arose because of "and".
"AND" is a co-ordinate conjunction.

2. Ram and Mohan are playing.

The book says that the above sentence is a compound sentence.

Thanks.

hanuman_2000I think it is a simple sentence.
It is.

The only main clause is the entire sentence. The coordinator and is joining two nouns, not two clauses.

[Ram and Mohan] (subject) [are brothers] (predicate).

Same with your second sentence.
