Anaphora

Does the term "anaphora" denote the word, e.g. a pronoun, that substitute the previously used word/phrase/clause or does it mean a usage of such a substitution?

Anaphora means the act of referring to another word that is mentioned in the same context (i.e. sentence/previous sentence).

The anaphor is the word that does the referring.

The antecedent is the word that is being referred to.

I've understood from your answer that the anaphora denotes a process, sort of "look back from right to left", whereas the anaphor means the word which substitute the previously mentioned one in the context.

Yes, that is right. However, if the proform (his, its) is located to the left of what it refers to, we use the term cataphor.
