Analogy/INSTRUMENTALIST: SYMPHONY

INSTRUMENTALIST: SYMPHONY::
(A) author: drama
(B) photographer: cinema
(C) composer: concerto
(D) artist: painting
(E) dancer: ballet

(Choose a pair that expresses a relationship most similar to that of the given pair.)

It seems both D and E are right. Then which one do you think is closer? Thank you.

(My understanding: I think it's E. Both the capitalized pair and E pair have a suggestion of "performing".)

Top answer

I go with E also. An artist is the creator of the painting, but an instrumentalist and dancer are not necessarily the creator of their respective parts.

I think you're right about the performing part.

You need instrumentalists to perform a symphony.
You need dancers to perform a ballet.

You need a composer to perform a concerto, but not in the same way!
The composer has to have written the concerto so that someone can perform it; he doesn't have to perform it himself.
The other choices are equally skewed fr

Thank you two. I got it. And if I noticed this, I would've not posted this question.

but an instrumentalist and dancer are not necessarily the creator of their respective parts.

I agree with the consensus on this one, with the added thought that a symphony/ballet is generally performed by a group of insturmentalists/dancers. ( I suppose you could have a single dancer performing a ballet, but I think then it would be called a ballet solo to distinguish it from the more common group performance.)
