Analogy/ agrarian: farming
AGRARIAN: FARMING::
(A) urban: society
(B) mercantile: trade
(C) nautical: sailor
(D) pastoral: pasture
(E) global : region
(Choose a pair that expresses a relationship most similar to that of the one in capitalized letters)
Agrarian: of or relating to farming.
The answer is B. I could tell. But C. nautical: sailor and D. pastoral: pasture both seem right too.
I can convince myself if we replace sailor with sail/sailing C will be no doubt right, because "sailor" just means the one who works in a ship. But what about D. pastoral: pasture, when pasture means "the feeding or grazing of animals" instead of "grass eaten as food by grazing animals or ground on which such grass grows"?

Thank you, Mr. M, but pastoral also means "of, relating to, or used for animal husbandry." (Source: http://dictionary.reference.com/search?q=pastoral) Doesn't it have anything to do with the grazing of animals?

That's what shepherding is-- animal husbandry. But it is pasture that is the problem. Perhaps here you need to get a sense of proportion as to how closely concepts are related. Pasture is no more related to pastoral than it is to agrarian. Nor does it fit this analogy any more closely than sailor fits nautical: a sailor is just a man, as you s
