Anacyclosis
I encountered the term "anakuklosis" many years ago, in context meaning "coming back around again and again, always at a higher level." Makes sense from roots: cycling upward.
Then I encountered Polybius and others, who use it to mean more of an "eternal return" - always returning to the same low level after development and collapse. Ans others use it to mean simply regression.
Is there a "correct" meaning or usage for this term?
