Hi,
“The trip has already cost me an outlay in expenses.”
Is that correct or is the use of ‘outlay’ rare in this sense?
I came across the sentence in a book and also on the Internet.
Thank you.
g. "an outlay of a thousand pounds", so I would say your use is fairly unusual.

I think when we say "an outlay" we usually also specify an amount, e.g. "an outlay of a thousand pounds", so I would say your use is fairly unusual.
