an one-liner about "degree"

I saw a video in which two British guys were talking about universities.
They said there were some work to do, and there was a degree people need to do.
However, they emphasized the word "degree" and then they laughed.
I didn't get it. Can anyone help? Thanks a lot.

If I understand what they are babbling about, it is a lot of laughing about not very much—just a small pun in the phrase 'degree of work' at a university, where 'degree' = a small amount vs 'degree' = university diploma.
