An intricate (or complicated) family

Yesterday, I read a newspaper article about a family. The father has two wives and a few affairs outside. His daughter has been kicked out of school a few times due to misconduct. His son is a drug user.

Can I describe his family as complicated or intricate?

Thanks for your help.
