an interesting multiple test question

Hi,

I go for "E" but "C" also appeals to my eye, considering "further" is a proper collocation with "overrun".What would you say?

Bob's attempt to have his wife use his car didn't work, and it only............ his work schdule further;in the end he went back to dropping her off at work.

A)obstructed
B)withheld
C)overran
D)remained
E)disrupted

IMO, to disrupt one's schedule is okey, but to overrun one's schedule doesn't sound good.

Furthermore, unlike caring for babies or patients, to have somebody else to use one's car couldn't overwhelmingly occupy one's life. So I don't think disrupted could be replaced by overran here.
