An idiom is required. "To take great care of something"

Hi

Is there any idiom which means "to take great care of something or somebody."

In Urdu, there is an idiom whose literal translation is "to take care of someone like a blister on the palm." -- this usually implies pain and fatigue for the person who is taking care.

She took care of her elderly mother like a blister on the palm.

Any idiom in English that is roughly the same?

Thanks,

Tom

PS: In the palm or on the palm?
