An Honest Mistake

Why do people say that, when they can just say "My mistake"? What's the word "honest" for?

Sometimes "mistakes" are not so honest, or they are not true accidents (someone does something but hope no one will notice, and if it is noticed they pretend it was just an accident). So "it was just an honest mistake" is a phrase that emphasizes that there were no bad intentions. It was just an error.

  • If you say say "I made an honest misake" you are saying it was your responsibility, but you weren't trying to cheat anyone.
