"An estimated 8 million people"

Is the sentence "An estimated 8 million people develop active tuberculosis disease each year resulting in approximately 2 million deaths" right? I seldom see the use of "An estimated 8 million people" and I feel that the use of "It is estimated that 8 million people..." are more common.

Who can help me out? Many thanks!!!
