Essay & Composition Writing

An essay writing question

Hello!

As you may (or may not) know, college application season is here and it's essay writing time... I'll be honest, I was always average in writing essays. Most college essays are asking you to describe an event or experience that influenced you, but the problem is I don't really know how to write it. What I write is basically some sort of "once a upon a time" story, and I know that's not what I need. I would like to ask if there are any guides or tips on expanding on an event?

Thank you very much!

Influence you in what way? An essay question, if general enough, usually leaves room for much expansion. You start off with an introduction, body then conclusion, and it's in the "body" of the essay where you expand the main idea.

  • You expand on the idea by writing related ideas in one paragraph each and putting details in it.
  • I can't really say much here since I don't know the essay question, but if you're not really sure how to start, brainstorm some ideas first.
