An essay on "a new restaurant in the neighbourhood – good or bad?"

Hello,

Here is another my essay on the following topic:

"It has recently been announced that a new restaurant may be built in your neighborhood. Do you support or oppose this plan? Why?"

I'll be much appreciated if you take a look. Any critique is welcome.

Essay:

Building of a new restaurant in the neighbourhood may have several consequences, both positive and negative.

Since a restaurant will be built somewhere in the neighbourhood, a trip there will take a mininum of time. So, it is unlikely to happen that somebody from the nieghbourhood, having been dalayed by a traffic jam, arrive to the restaurant, and his or her reservation has already been voided. Such closeness of the restaurant to one's home also provides one with an ability to walk home from the restaurant afoot, which is quite a pleasure.

Another positive consequence is that the new restaurant will be one more place to go out to eat. It will increase diversity in food and provide more options to choose for consumers. And in the same time, it will intensify the concurrence among local food businesses, which will lead to decrease in food prices and increase in food quality.

One more point for the benifit of the local community is that the new restaurant, as any other kind of new business in the food sector, will create new workplaces. So, if there is a high rate of unemployment in the neighbourhood, these new workplaces will abate this rate somehow.

The final benificial effect of a new business is that the city budget will collect more money via taxation, which will positively affect the whole city.

While there are so much positive consequences, there are also some nagative ones. The first and possibly the most tangible problem is that the new restaurant will attract a lot of customers thereby increasing noisiness. This problem is the more acute the later the restaurant is being closed. If it works till late night, then people at the houses close to the restaurant won't be able to sleep quietly. Also, cars that deliver food supplies will significantly participate in the noise increasing. And it is impossible to ignore the fact, that construction of the restaurant will be quite a noisy process, though transitory in comparison with the two previously described noise sources, which are permanent.

Another possible negative consequence is that the grown concurrence among local food businesses whould be able to kill several small businesses, because their customers may switch to the restaurant by reason of its superior dishes diversity, better prices, or simply fanciness. And if some of these closed businesses were your favourite, it sure would be a dissapointment for you.

In conclusion, it may be infered that building of a new restaurant may have some positive as well as some negative consequences for the local neighbourhood and to the city in a whole. Each of these points should be weighted, and if the sum of all positive consequences outweights the sum of all negative ones, then the new restaurant is apparently a good.

Thanks in advance.
