An essay for harvard - please help at one sentence

A HARVARD APPLICATION ESSAY FOR LEADERSHIP EXPERIENCES

During my past career, a relatively dynamic and multifunctional one, I have exercised a number of formal leaderships.

Though these leadership experiences were as diverse as from managing a 3 persons courier team that was assigned to bring the first ever cross border USD bank notes shipment /equivalent of 6 million USD/ from China to Mongolia by taking a public land transportation in a critical situation, when the airplane has been delayed, to being in charge of a whole bank, the most vivid and difficult leadership experiences for me were informal leaderships. These are the type of leadership, where no money is involved and no formal authority is given.

PLEASE I AM STUCK WITH THE SENTENCE IN BOLD. HOW TO MAKE IT STRUCTURALLY SOUND?
I am going to start discussing my informal leadership experiences but I also want them to get suprised /deliberatly/ at my very interesting formal leadership roles.
