An equivalent of "refuse collector" in American English

I happened to find "refuse collector" on one of my dictionaries, and it is given with the label British.

I wonder
1) what's the equivalent in American English?
2) whether I can say "recycle?/recycling collector" to mean one who collects recyclable refuse. Not sure if there are such people in America or Britain. In Taiwan, there are a lot of such people who make their living on this.

Regards

  • In British, the word could be "dustcart", in AmE - "garbage truck".
  • I'm not native and therefore I could only suggest what my dictionary says to me.

Err...no offense, but a "refuse collector" is not any kind of vehicle...
