An English question about usage of "the"

Hello everyone, I am a learner of the second language. Actually, I'm always not cleared about usage of "the". Could I use "the" on my mind to refer any specific thing if they are not referred before?

Ex, We should have a meeting with the friends after the summer vacation.

Thanks

Anonymous We should have a meeting with the friends after the summer vacation. More information about the context is required, but this is not a very common thing to say. It sounds as if "the friends" refers to a known group of someone else's friends, or perhaps a group of supporters of an institution or similar (this is a special meaning of "friends").
