An awful lot

Can you please explain orange parts?

Academically, being a 'pedant' is not really a bad thing at all - tiresome sometimes, but not transgressive or vulgar. It's usually someone who DOES know an awful lot...but insists on very rigorous standards in presenting and preparing that information and disseminating it.
