Thank you, Clive.

I understand that dictionary definitions have to be concise and the user has to fill in the gaps sometimes. But still I would have written the definition as: an article serving to equip for something.

Do you find my way correct? Any suggestions?

Hi,
I suppose you might say something like that. As you say, it needs to be concise.
