After his lost son has been found by the searchers " a relieved Mr Jones told reporters ''I just knew, he was alive."

Hi, What is the function of the 'a' there? Does it stand in place of 'now'?

Now having been relieved, Mr Jones told reporters 'I just knew, he was alive'.

He was relieved, yes.

There is just something weird about saying 'he had been relieved' as it changes the meaning of relieved somehow. It is like it is saying he felt relieved in the past but was not longer feeling relieved. Also it makes me think of 'to relieve' in the sense of take on a military duty.
