An annual fee of rupees thousand (Rs/- 1000) covering monthly, mid-term and final examination...

Hi

Is this sentence OK in formal written English?

An annual fee of rupees thousand (Rs/- 1000) covering monthly, mid-term and final examination as well as generator charges must be paid during the first three months of the child’s admission. The fee can be paid in two installments.

Thanks,

Tom

As I understand it, the figure '/-' (not used in AmE or BrE) represent the amount after the decimal point, so that your amount should read 'Rs 1000/-'. An annual fee of one thousand rupees (Rs 1000/-) covering monthly, mid-term and final examinations , as well as generator charges , must be paid during the first three months after the student’s admission. This fee can be paid in two installments.

  • As I understand it, the figure '/-' (not used in AmE or BrE) represent the amount after the decimal point, so that your amount should read 'Rs 1000/-'.
  • An annual fee of one thousand rupees (Rs 1000/-) covering monthly, mid-term and final examinations , as well as generator charges , must be paid during the first three months after the student’s admission.
  • This fee can be paid in two installments.
  • If you do not need to specify, then I would reduce it to this: An annual fee of one thousand rupees (Rs 1000/-) covering all examinations and generator charges mus t be paid during the first three months after the student’s admission.
  • This fee can be paid in two installments.
