An affectionate/loving father

Bill is an affectionate father. He reads his son a bedtime story every night.

... a loving father ...

Hi,

I think the above two are similar, but are there subtle nuances? Thanks for your comments.

Your question is the difference between 'affectionate' and 'loving'? I believe everyone would have a different opinion on that, but I would think 'loving' refers to the person's inward feeling, and 'affectionate' to the way that person expresses their feelings. Caleb.

They are similar.

An affectionate person is someone who demonstrates their love for others, frequently by physical contact.

Loving father, devoted father, doting father are synonyms. Such a father would support and encourage his children in many different ways.
