An adverb in 'as ~ as' pattern

My friend ask me a question. I do not know if I can put it in a clear way.

____________

1. Nothing illustrates as clearly our changing attitudes toward the value of experience as the fate of these two words.

Adverbs describe (only??) adjectives or adverbs. (If I am correct)

Q) In the above sentence, what does 'clearly' describe?
To me, it looks that it does not describe either an adjective or an adverb in the sentence?
'Changing' is only an adject in the sentense. But, I don't think it can give a meaning only to 'changing'
Can 'clearly' describe the noun phrase('our changing attitude toward the value of experience')?

If there is a sentence like 'He is as tall as Mary. Then the emphatic point within 'as ~ as' is 'tall' without doubt.
Then what is(or can be) an emphatic point within 'as clearly our changing attitudes toward the value of experience as' in the above sentence?

Q2) Is 'clearly' the one? or 'our changing attitudes ~~'?

Thank you CJ.

I actually did not need to add any explanation to avoid complication; I just wanted to show what I and my friend discussed.

It turned out that our discussion was totally in vain! We believed the point was somewhere beyond your answer-.-;;

Your last explanation is really powerful!! Now I know, more elements after an adjective or an adverb in a as ~~ as
