I don't want to be a pain in the you-know-where. But, let's say the tree is healthy in any sense. Some trees naturally have less amount of leaves on and when the sun shines through them, it sends speckles of light on the the ground, while other tress with thick foliage provide solid shades instead. Get the picture? pointless? I don't know, English is a very descriptive language, I thought maybe there's a word like that to describe the mass of leaves on tree being "not-very-thick".

You may need more than one word to get all of those impressions across. Somewhere in the mix you might try "sparse" or try a simile or metaphor with "lacy".
