Vocabulary

an adjective for imitation

Hi teachers,

I learned this word and then I forgot. It is to describe children who constantly take after adult's behavior or imitate them.

A very ___ child

Thanks

You're not thinking of "precocious", are you? This means "ahead in development" rather than specifically imitative though. I've always felt that "precocious child" can have slightly negative connotations. Despite its meaning, it's not really something that you would say to proud parents when their child does something clever: "Oooh, what a lovely little precocious child!"

Hi GPY,

Is impersonate child one? I looked up almost words that start with 'im-' but I couldn't find one. Maybe I remember it wrong.

"Impersonate" is a verb, not an adjective. There's "imitative" of course, but that's a fairly general word, and doesn't seem to exactly satisfy your requirements.

Hi GPY,

It's almost like a phrase. To mimic especially from bad influence. Do you have other words in mind for me?

Thanks

"to mimic" is a verb, though. Do you definitely want an adjective as you said at the top, or might you be thinking of a verb instead?

"emulative" is a valid word with the right kind of meaning, but "a very emulative child" isn't a familiar phrase at all.
