an additional couple of hours

Some people are trying a very unique approach to saving gas. They switch their homes. A and B used to travel hours to work. Ever since they switched their homes, they find an additional couple of hours of free time every day.
Now that they think about it, they feel they should have done it a long time ago.

Are there any mistakes?
Thanks.

Good point, Yoong Liat. I wonder if Optilang feels the same way.

Strictly speaking I agree.

However, 'very unique' is commonly used. It's not something that I would lose any sleep over.

I think "unique" is one of those words like "perfect" and "round."

Technically, a thing is either round or it's not, and A cannot be more round than B. We're required to say, "more nearly round." But nobody would. AAAAA Tires get better marks for roundness than do BBBBB tires. DDD tires are rounder than EEE tires.

If something is unique, it's the only one in the unive

Thanks, Optilang and Avangi for the practical point of view.

"Very unique" just sets my teeth on ege.

A true story: Someone came to me for help editing something. I said "we need to get rid of 'very unique' " and the person resisted. In fact, insisted. I told them to find someone else to help with the editing.

The "usage note" in my Ameican Heritage says 94% of the panel consider "very unique" unacceptable in "careful usage." That's much higher than I expected it to be. I would have thought about fifty-fifty. Chalk one up for Yoong!

A search on The Times website reveals over 6,000 results. Good enough for me not to lose sleep over.

It's quite simple, some adjectives lend themselves to comparison and others don't. "Unique" doesn't.
