An abstract in english, proofreading would be appreciated

Hi everybody.
I'm a student from Denmark, and in connection with a rather large exam-project, we have been asked to write a short abstract of our project in English. As i'm not too good at English, i would be very happy if someone with English as their native language would take a short moment to take a look at my abstract and see if they could spot any problems with the grammar, commas, or choice of words in general :-)
"This paper examines the racial segregation which existed in the southern of states of the USA in the 1950's and 1960's. Through an analysis of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.'s Letter from Birmingham Jail, his means and goals in the fight for the Afro-American Civil Rights Movement are examined. By taking point of departure in Barack Obama's speech at Martin Luther King, Jr.'s Church in Atlanta, the notion of him as a realization of Dr. King's ‘dream' is discussed. The study indicated that, although King employed a wide array of tactics in the fight for civil rights, his use of non-violent civil disobedience as a mean of overthrowing unjust legislation as well as his ability to transform the formerly political matter of racial segregation into a moral question were his most important methods. The notion of Obama as complete realization of King's ‘dream' were found to be inaccurate and arguments pointed to him rather being an important step in the completion of the dream."

Thank you,
Theis Mikkelsena.
