"an"?

There is a sentence in the passage which i have read today.
The use of the word "an" makes me confused. Please give me some explanations. That passage is:
"Close circuit television cameras are increasingly becoming a fact of life in modern Britain. They can be seen in office buildings, shopping centers, banks, residential areas and even parks, and it is estimated
that the average Briton is filmed AN ( amaze) ............ 200 times a day.

I have to give the correct form of the word in capital. My teacher said it had to be an adj. But i'm still confused why it is an adj but not a noun.
If it is an adj, so why A/An + adj without a noun behind? Or 200 times is its noun? And what does "an amazing 200 times a day"' mean?
